An Ancient Village and a Historical Castle
One of our favourite programs: in 6 days you'll experience the way of living of the people of other centuries, on fully and delightfully restored houses in a little village near Lisbon and then, you'll move to a restored Castle (today a wonderful Pousada) in
Alentejo, where you'll feel like a Lord.
Experience both ways of life, surrounded by a magnificent Landscape! And of course, this program allows the possibility of exploring the Lisbon surroundings, the city itself and the inspirational Alentejo region, since you'll be accommodated in these regions.
Although this is an experience program, you'll have all the comfort of modern times. A different way to visit and feel Portugal!
Day 1, 2 and 3 - Live in a Small Village House
Aldeia da Mata Pequena - Near Mafra
"Aldeia da Mata Pequena is a small rural village, with a dozen houses, situated barely 30 minutes from the city of Lisbon. Close to the capital but so far from the hustle and bustle of the city... It is located within the Special Protection Area of Penedo do
Lexim, an extinct volcano where there is an important archaeological site. Proud eagles and stealthy foxes inhabit an extremely rich and well-preserved natural landscape, inviting visitors to relax, to indulge in leisure activities and to be in contact with nature.
Human presence in Mata Pequena dates at least to the Roman occupation, as demonstrated by the vestiges that have been found in the area. However, instead of the 70 inhabitants who lived in the village in the 19th century, now there are less than a score who
stubbornly maintain the customs and traditions of earlier times.
Lost in time, Aldeia da Mata Pequena has benefited from its isolation, which has prevented less "enlightened" intervention that might have spoiled its authenticity. Appearing to awake from a long period of hibernation, Mata Pequena is now one of the rare
examples of Traditional Architecture in the Saloio region north of Lisbon, remaining closely bound to its original identity.
The houses have been fully and delightfully restored. Showing a combination of modern techniques and respect for the past, their careful and harmonious restoration has maintained both the aesthetic coherence of the group of houses and a high level of comfort.
The houses have been decorated to the same exacting standards, capturing the spirit of times past. Functionality and comfort, indispensable in the present day, are guaranteed through discreet, modern solutions.
Aldeia da Mata Pequena currently offers 6 houses entirely independent (bedrooms, sittingroom, kitchen and bathroom) for vacations, weekends or business visits, which are well equipped with essential amenities."
Day 4, 5 and 6: Live in a Castle, like a Lord
