Quinta de Sant' Ana is run by James and Ann Frost. Having been in Ann's German family since the 1960s, the Quinta is a working farm producing its own wine, honey, fruit, vegetables and wood.
The oldest part of the property is the chapel, dating back to 1630. Its beautiful statue of Saint Anne and the
hand painted 'azulejos' are famous in the region.
The Quinta was once owned by the crown. King Dom Luis presented it to the famous actress Rosa Damasceno. A theatre was built especially for
her. The Quinta borders on the old 1187 ha royal hunting ground of the kings of Portugal, the 'Tapada de Mafra', today a wildlife reserve. The Frosts have converted some of the buildings into charming self-catering houses. |
