Pico Island, in
particular, Lajes Village has a specific conjunct of conditions
for the whale watching lovers. Besides offering a high level of
sperm whale observation, the island has a peculiar living
connected with the past and is attended with whale hunting.
There is a Whalers Museum in Lajes do Pico and in São Roque
there is the Whaling Industry Museum. The connection between the
historical past of Whaling and eco-tourism finds here the most
perfect symbiosis. For this reason, we prepared for you in Pico
Island a one week program to involve opportunities to sight
whales and dolphins and to acquire a large range of knowledge
about the whaling history on the Azores.
1ST Day – Arrival to Pico Island. Transfer to the hotel.
2ND Day –8h30am: Welcome briefing, introduction to the
Whale Watching activity, boarding the boats and the animals,
education and investigation actions developed by Futurismo.
Environmental education and security notions on board. History
of the cultural relation between the Azorean people and the
whales. Departure to the first trip to the cetacean’s discovery.
3rd Day – Whale Watching.
4th Day – Circuit around the island. Visit to the Whalers
Museum and Whaling Industry and visit to the Wine Museum.
Exploration of “Gruta das Torres”. Passing by the main
landscapes of the island. Lunch Included
5th Day – Whale Watching.
6th Day – Whale Watching
7th Day – Whale Watching.
8th Day – Transfer to the airport and departure to Pico
Island.
