Trail riding on Lusitano horses in coastal Portugal

From an idyllic location in the hills, near the small coastal
village of Milfontes on the river Mira, we organise trail riding
adventures for experienced riders. We also offer the opportunity
of taking classical dressage lessons in combination with a week
s trail riding.
The landscape consists of beautiful, rugged beaches backing
onto protected dunescapes, rice paddies and forests of cork
oaks, eucalyptus and pine trees.
You will ride through long forgotten valleys and small villages
where it seems as if time has stood still. Tiny farms dot the
surrounding hills where the land is still worked by mules. The
riding possibilities on the maze of caminhos or dirt tracks here
are almost limitless, and every day brings a new experience.
The horses you ll ride are well-schooled Lusitanos and a few
cruzados or crosses, all a pleasure to ride! The gentle climate,
with a yearly average temperature varying between 16 °C (60 °F)
and 27 °C (80 °F) makes it the ideal area to visit the whole
year through, particularly in the spring and autumn when the
hills are carpeted with flowers in full bloom.
Your accommodation is, depending on the trail and season, in one
of the rooms with en-suite bathroom in the guesthouse at the
farm with the horses or, in the summer, we also offer
accommodation in comfortable safari tents located in the
eucalyptus and cork oak forest at the farm. There is, of course,
a pool at the farm.
Naturally, non-riding partners and friends are more than
welcome. There are many possibilities for long hikes or trails
by mountain bike, canoe trips or swimming. Just relaxing by the
pool with a good book, bird watching or exploring the farm are
other, less strenuous, options.
Custom programs can also be put together to suit your
requirements. |
