Alentejo - The oldest traditions
|
| | |
Endless fields as far as the eye can see!
|
| | |
The Alentejo region, an hour's drive east of Lisbon, seems some
times like a different country. Famous for its wines, its local
cuisine, Roman ruins, castles, and cork oaks.
The sun-baked Alentejo occupies nearly one-third of Portugal
stretching from the Tagus river in the north to the Algarve in
the south. This region of Portugal has large farms in rolling
countryside which stretch as far as the eye can see, and very
little population.
Long beaches and wide open plains with large farms many rearing
fighting bulls.
Hilltop towns, often with a castle that has been converted into
a hotel in the Pousada group. The western coast has long,
sandy deserted Atlantic beaches.
Come with us and discover the unknown Alentejo.
